JIMMY COLE’S DEL-MARVA ALLSTARS!

They’re back on the Eastern Shore February 17 for the 14th annual Crawfish Boil & Muskrat Stewfest. The moveable feast has migrated to Stevensville, Maryland,at a new venue on Kent Island, Cult Classic Brewing. Boil and Stew Chef-In-Chief Keith Graffius will be rolling out a fabulous spread once again.

DelMarva musicians are a unique bunch. Everything was going on around here, from Jazz, Rhythm & Blues, Gospel, Bluegrass & Country, Rock & Roll, Zydeco, and every hybrid form imaginable. A working musician pursued as many styles as possible, and could always stay busy back in the day.

You will see familiar faces on the stage. These guys have performed for this event since the outset, and on the Shore many times before this festival began. Jimmy C. Cole, a Manassas, Virginia native, began performing in the Bluegrass & Country music styles that were prevalent around his hometown. He met Fairfax County, Virginia Blues great John Jackson as a teenager, and was inspired and mentored by John to begin a lifetime exploration of this musical form.

He has also worked in all the other various DelMarva styles over the years, and was based in the Boston, Massachusetts/Cape Cod areas in the late 1960’s and early 70’s, working around New England up to Canada. That northern weather was too much for this southern boy, and he headed back to Virginia where he remains.

George Sheppard on drums and Ron Holloway on tenor sax have worked together since they were youngsters in the Dizzy Gillespie organization. George has also worked with many others, including Frank Sinatra, Benny Goodman, Frank Zappa, Johnny Winter and Jimmy Thackery, as well as performing as a studio musician on many national hit recordings.

Ron, in addition to fronting many iterations of his own band and recording numerous Jazz albums, worked with Root Boy Slim and the Allman Brothers, and continues to perform with Warren Haynes in Gov’t. Mule, Devon Allman, Tedeschi-Trucks Band, and many others as a first-call Tenor man.

Ron worked with a Bluegrass band called “Cabinet”, and is the only Bluegrass saxman we are aware of! Next time you pass through DC swing by 624 T Street NW and view the building-size mural of Ron and his sax painted on the side!

Sam Paladino on keyboards is the elder statesman of a great era in Washington DC/DelMarva music, during the 1950’s and 60’s, when a musician could work 7 nights a week if so desired. The “Last Man Standing”, we call him the “Godfather of Music in DC”, a title he has justly arned! Sam and George worked with Roy Clark when he was a DelMarva musician , before Hee-Haw and worldwide success. In addition to a secular music career, Sam performed in variousWashington, DC cathedrals for 12 years, playing the huge pipe organs, truly an outstanding achievement. He will once again bring his mighty Hammond organ, and piano, to “The Fest”.

Joining George in the rhythm section is Bryan Smith who has worked with Rockabilly greats Billy Hancock & Tex Rubinowitz, and many other DelMarva ladies and gentlemen. He performs on both electric and acoustic bass, and had a long career as a member of the US Navy Bluegrass band, “Country Current”.

He and Jimmy have worked together for 40 years on many occasions. He’s the other Virginia native in this aggrergation.

Joining Jimmy C. on guitar and vocals is the other Jimmy, a great and versatile player, Jimmy Stephanson. The two Jimmys have worked together often in duo and group settings. He is best known for leading his own group “Jimmy & the Blue Dogs”, and for the duo “Blue Rhythm Boys” with guitarist Tom Mitchell.

He also works often as a sideman around the region and can jump right in for any occasion. We welcome him to his first “Crawfish Boil & Muskrat Stewfest!

These guys will see you on February 17, 2024 at Cult Classic Brewing from 2-5 pm.

Get ready for “The Fest”!
