Albert Martin Balgo and Daniel DeGarmo (Grandson) My grandfather, Albert M. Balgo, served on the USS Idaho in WWII. He received a purple heart for taking a 40 caliber (I think) to the leg that blew his knee off. He gave me that medal for my 14th birthday. Today I am 30. If you have any information that would lend to my further knowledge of the ship and possible contact for shipmates for him it would be much appreciated. He is 82 years old and living in Moundsville, WV with his wife of over 50 years. His health is a bit challenged as he ran into some medical problems last winter. However, he still talks of his time on the Idaho. His favorite story to tell me was when a kamikaze hit the ship and he remembers "pulling a Jap's mustache off the side of the ship" as he tells it. Anyway, any help you could provide would be great. I would love to take him to a USS Idaho reunion sometime if there ever is one sometime. Please contact me. Thanks, Dan
